I just read this great blog post by Bob Franquiz. He talks about a strategy that his church has been using to make Mother’s Day one of their biggest outreach days of the year. Read the post for the complete strategy, but in essence, they do free Mother’s day portraits on that day.
I actually had something else in mind to do for Mother’s day, but I think this is a better idea. As I was thinking about it, it wouldn’t have to be too complicated or even expensive.
1. Get a volunteer photographer. You probably have someone in your church right now that is pro or semi-pro at taking photos. Get them to volunteer to take some family pictures on that day when they come to church.
This would also be a win-win for the photographer. You would receive a valuable service and the photographer would get a nice platform for future business.
2. Set up a simple backdrop. The photographer probably has the materials necessary. If not, you can probably arrange for something to be put up quite inexpensively. Perhaps inside the church somewhere, or you could take a few pics outside.
3. Give them the free cd with a few pics the next week at church. If they want the pictures, they have to come back to church the next week to receive them. You could dress up the cd with a bow or something inexpensive, and they could take it from there to Wal-Greens to get it printed out. So in theory, the only major expense would be the cost of the Cd’s.
What do you all think? Let’s get some feedback so we can all learn together. How could this be made better?
