How To Customize the Boldy WordPress Theme (Video)

December 22, 2010 Rodlie Ortiz, D.Min.

This is a review and how to of the Boldy WordPress theme.

Note: Because of the popularity of this tutorial, I’ve had a tough time keeping up with all the comments and questions. If you don’t receive a response for awhile please don’t be offended. Also, I encourage you to read through all the comments as many of the questions have been answered by other commenters. Thanks! 🙂

In this video I do a walkthrough of the Boldy WordPress theme. It’s what we use for our church website and we’ve been enjoying it.

*In the video I say that the banner size for the main page should be 970×360. They should actually be 960 x370.

Chapter sections:

1. Installing a logo: at 35 seconds

2. Editing main banner: at 2:36 minutes

3. Home page boxes: at 4:26 minutes

4. Adding a home button and dealing with menus: at 7:24 minutes

5. Getting rid of the “Site 5” footer graphic: at 9:16 minutes

6. Changing the “request quote” button: at 10:15 minutes

7. Overview of the backend: at 11:55 minutes

8. Adding a “contact us” page: at 12:53 minutes

Do you have any other comments or questions? Let me know about them in the comments below and I’ll try to help.

I have the same problem as MrCrow:
“I got the slideshow to come up, but it’s stuck on the loading dial. No images will show up. Any ideas?”

I have created a new page, uploaded a couple of 960×370 images (neither featured)and published it. I went into Boldy options and selected it for the slider. Still a scrolling wheel on my home page no matter what I do. Could you please help?

    Kristin,

There seems to be something broke in jQuery and WordPress 3.3. You could downgrade to a previous version of WordPress or wait for the jQuery update.

    Hey Rodlie,

Awesome video thanks so much, I basically self taught myself off your video and some YouTubes and pieced together https://www.ianstannard.com …..

I notice you have the All in One SEO pack installed, I am about to install this as I need to get my site onto a Google search for “Ian Stannard” …. did it work ok? Site5’s forums are full of people saying the All In One pack doesnt’ work on Boldy??

Have you any advice on meta tags etc, ? It would be great to hear if the All in One pack works ok, as this comes recommended…..

Thanks and amazing work on the tutorial video’s,

    Gary

    • Rodlie Ortiz says

      January 16, 2012 at 4:34 pm

I honestly can’t remember to be honest. The best thing you could do, of course, for your SEO is actually to blog and continually add content. I actually don’t worry too much about SEO as long as there’s a blog associated with my site.

    Hey Rodlie,

Firstly, thank you SO much for these video tutorials. They have helped me set up my Boldy WP theme massively, I would never have figured it out without them.

I just wanted to know, in what format do I enter my Meta description and keywords. Can I literally drop them in or do they need to be prefixed with some HTML or duplicated in any of the other files elswhere in the theme?

    Thanks in advance Rodlie,

    Charlotte 🙂

    • Rodlie Ortiz says

      January 19, 2012 at 9:42 pm

Hey Charlotte. So glad it was helpful for you. I’m actually not sure what you’re referring to as far as entering the meta description. Is this for SEO purposes underneath a particular post? I usually don’t mess with that stuff myself. There are plugins out there that I’ve used: All In One SEO. But for my use of the Boldy theme, I never got in to it.

Hello Rodlie and thanks so much for your useful tutorial.
I am from Spain and currently I am trying to prepare a nice page with my CV to help me to find a job.
I have two problems with this theme. First is that I am not able to change the blurb button. Your instructions are quite clear, but it doesn’t work, so I have decided to remove the button. How can I do that? Secondly, in the slidebar you can see a small squares on the top left hand. These squares are changing at the same time taht the images. How can I get ride of them?

    Really apreciate your help!
    Have a nice day…

    • Rodlie Ortiz says

      February 16, 2012 at 8:39 am

      Hola Carmen!! 😉
I don’t think you can remove the “blurb” bar, actually. The button, yes, but the section no. You have to actually remove the file from the theme. I’m not sure what you might be referring to with small squares. Perhaps if you send a link I can try to take a look.

      • Carmen says

        February 16, 2012 at 12:14 pm

Hello Rodlie and thank you for your answer and your greeting in Spanish!
Let me explain with more detail about the “misterious squares”. For example look at your own web, you can see in the top of the photos in the slidebar (on the left side, three small squares: 2 in white color and 1 in blue color. When the photo changes, the blue square changes its position too. It is like an indication about which photo is appearing at the moment.

I would like to delete them in order tosee much better the photos of the slidebar.

        Kind regards…

        • Rodlie Ortiz says

          February 21, 2012 at 9:47 pm

Ah, ok, now I see what you’re saying. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s possible. If you just have one picture, of course, there won’t be any boxes there because it will just stay on the one picture. But with multiple pictures I don’t think there’s an option to remove it. You can slow it down, though. Bendiciones, Carmen.

How would I make a single page that has no sidebar in boldy theme.

    • Rodlie Ortiz says

      February 21, 2012 at 9:48 pm

I think that’s possible. You just wouldn’t add any widgets for the sidebar. There would still be a space there, though, if people click on one of the other pages.
