The Most Important Lesson I Ever Learned From Cell Church

When I was in seminary I was involved in a cell church called “The Passage.” At first it began as just one cell group in the home of professor Don James. A few weeks after I joined some from the group wanted to multiply and launch their own cell group. I stayed behind in the mother group for about 6 months at which point I launched out with two other guys and their wives. When the group grew to about 25 people I launched out with a few of them to lead my own cell group. All the while I was receiving all kinds of coaching, training, and learning to live life in community with others.

Why I’m In Lust With Wunderlist

I’ve been using Wunderlist now for about two weeks and I think it’s of the best task/todo list systems out there.

I had been using Google Tasks, which is built-in to Gmail, but I found this to be much better.

Here’s what I’m liking about it:

1. Desktop version. They have desktop versions for every operating system out there. This is nice because I don’t have to have some web window open. I can just have the desktop window (which is small) open, and add todo’s as they come in. Below is a pic of the actual desktop version.

Getting Our Plaque For Charity: Water

A few months ago I wrote about a Charity: Water campaign that my church funded. We just got the official word that everything is on track and everything was officially accepted. Here’s the email:

The Most Powerful Way of Serving

The other day I went biking in the hills (yes there are hills) of Clermont, Fl. My brother took me on a 30 mile route where we passed through a couple of decent climbs. One of the notable ones was going up Sugarloaf Mountain. I’m sure for experienced cyclists it’s no big deal (although I saw people with really expensive bikes having to walk up) but I was pretty proud of the fact that I was able to ride it up the whole way.

At What Age Should A Child Come Into The Service?

Some churches have programs for kids before the service and some have them during the service. In the video below Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Bible Church provides an interesting perspective that I think is good.

What Finding a Dentist Taught Me About Church Marketing

My youngest son recently chipped part of his tooth which meant that we needed to make a trip to a pediatric dentist. I did what anybody does these days, then: I googled “pediatric dentist in tampa, fl.” That’s it. Out came a long list of dentists. As I looked through the list I wondered how I could go about selecting the best one? I didn’t personally know any of them. I didn’t know anyone that could recommend a good pediatric dentist to me. So how does one evaluate an organization if you don’t have any reviews or recommendations?

What I Did When I Ran Out Of Blog Post Ideas

I recently ran out of ideas to write about. I have some measures in place like this calendar app that helps me to catalog what I want to write about, but I recently found myself at the bottom of the barrel. It’s not that ideas hadn’t been coming to me. The problem is that I hadn’t been writing them down.

So here’s what I did: I wrote them down. Genius, huh?

I pulled out my trusted Moleskine Notebook, created a tab towards the end, and took 15 minutes to write down every single idea that I could think of. During that time period I came up with about 10 solid ideas, including the title to this post.

Here’s two lesson I learned from this:
