Archives For web tool

In this post I detailed the reasons why I moved from Dreamhost. In short, it’s because they have horrible customer service. The question is how. I consider myself to be quite technically adept, but moving from one web host to another is just a little out of my comfort zone and I would rather someone else oversee the process.

Thankfully, I had heard about a great site called Odesk.com. This is a site where you can outsource all kinds of technical projects all over the world.

Allow me to walk you through some of the steps.

A Visual Theology

I’m a visual person. If I can read a name I can most certainly remember it. The same goes for visualizing abstract or theological concepts. If I can see a graphic with how things are interrelated, I can better understand it.

Chris Challies has done just that.

Here’s one on Philippians 4:8

I’ve been a fan of YouVersion ever since they came out.

What’s not to like? They offer online access to a huge amount of different Bible translations: 209 versions in 75 languages, to be exact. You can easily bookmark your reading and share it online via Facebook or Twitter. They have YouVersion apps for every conceivable device out there.

Here’s a nice blurb from the site in case you’re not too familiar with the background of the site and app:

YouVersion and the Bible App were created by a team at LifeChurch.tv in Edmond, Okla., to help increase access and engagement with the Bible. Featuring more than 100 versions and many languages, YouVersion was created to help people with busy, on-the-go lifestyles read the Bible at any time and in any place. Since its creation, YouVersion has remained in the top five downloaded apps in the reference category and is the No. 1 downloaded Bible on iTunes.

Two years ago they introduced some great Bible reading plans that were received to much fanfare. And finally, very recently, they release several new features that I’d like to highlight:

The idea is that you could search #sundaysetlist or even #worshipset in the twitter search and you could find lists of songs that were sung in a particular worship set.

Well, after seeing the tweet below from Allan Martin, I decided that we should start a new hashtag: #sabbathsetlist

Sometimes Seventh-day Adventist churches have unique needs and even unique songs that are sung in their churches, and there’s lots of pastors and worship pastors who could use some fresh ideas for what to sing. So…from my perch at the Pioneer Memorial Church, I’m going to begin doing this. Allan Martin from the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist church already said he’s in. We’d love it if you’d jump in as well.

When you send the tweet, we’d love to see three things:

You’ve certainly heard of Google+ by now. It’s Google’s latest attempt at being social. Orkut, Buzz, and Wave all failed, but I think Google+ may be on to something and could potentially pull the carpet from Facebook. Before I explain some of those reasons, let me first give a broad first impression.

At first glance, Google+ seems rather unimpressive. If you use Facebook, you’ll notice that it looks almost exactly like it. Check out my main page:

Hackers are an interesting group. It seems that they’re not content to just break into your email and sites, but they also customarily post your login and password for all to see on various sites. Hip, hip, Horaay!! Like I said, an “interesting” group.

So what can you do?
