New Look For ModernEkklesia & Free Book Give-Away!
ModernEkklesia now has a new look! After being on Blogger for 1.5 years, I’m happy to announce that we’re now on WordPress, and we’ve gotten a facelift.
It’s actually been up for about the past two weeks. I hadn’t officially announced it yet because I was still tweaking some stuff and trying to get some stuff to be perfect. Alas, it’s a continuing journey.
So if you’re one of those that always reads this through email or rss, I invite you to check out the site (www.modernekklesia.com) and take a look. Let me know what you think. In this post I solicited your help and responses in helping me to get the new look, and you guys showed up. So thanks! I ended up going with a blend of your recommendations.
So as a special thank you for your help I’d like to do something that I’m really excited about: give away a free book! It’s not just any book. It’s a book that is not even for sale yet, and won’t hit the book shelves until June. Pretty cool, huh? How did I get it? Well, you see, there was a guy named Tony who said he found a van full of books in the back of a warehouse and thought it wouldn’t be a big deal if he….ok, i’m just kidding, of course. Some pre-release versions were sent out to some bloggers.
The book is called “Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose.” It’s valued at $16.19 on Amazon.com, but you can get it for free here.
It’s written by the CEO of Zappos.com, Tony Hsieh. In case you’ve never heard of Zappos, they’re the online store that originally began by selling shoes, but now sells many more things. He’s a kind of a maverick (i’m tired of the term also) CEO, whose been highlighted much for instilling a very unique culture of excellence and fun in the company.
Check out their quote:
“At the end of the first week of training, we make an offer to the entire class. We offer everyone $2000 to quit (in addition to paying them for the time they’ve already worked), and it’s a standing offer until the end of the fourth week of training. We want to make sure that employees are here for more than just a paycheck. We want employees that believe in our long term vision and want to be a part of our culture. As it turns out, on average, less than 1% of people end up taking the offer.”
For a list of their core values click here. I can attest to their service personally as well. They have free shipping, even if you have to return something. When they first pick up the phone, they say something like, “How can I ‘wow’ you today?” And they actually mean it.
And I’ve taken a peek at the book, and it looks like a great read. Ok, now that I’ve finished hyping the book let me let you know how to get it.
As a thank you to those that are subscribed, all you need to do is leave a comment. Any comment, and I’ll randomly select a winner. If you’re not already subscribed, this is your chance to jump on the boat. Sign up via email or rss, and then just leave any comment, and you’re good to go!
After a winner is selected, I’ll ask for your address and I’ll mail it over asap. It’s only open to those with a US mailing address. Sorry UK, Canada, and other countries! Maybe another time.
So thanks again to the community and collaboration we’ve been building here. I deeply appreciate it!

I’m always up for free books!
Did I mention my interest in the free book? Not sure if I used the word book or not but a book that is a free book and focused on ministry is a book that is worth checking out.
